As Dunnville prepares to mark a major milestone this summer, organizers of the Mudcat Festival have announced a theme that reaches deep into the past—inviting the community to celebrate in true retro style.
For its 50th anniversary, the Mudcat Festival Parade will take on the theme:
“Back to the 70s”
A nod to the decade in which the festival first began, the theme was chosen not only for its vibrant style, but for what it represents—a time of growth, community spirit, and the early days of a tradition that has become a cornerstone of Dunnville life.
Honouring Where It All Began
The Mudcat Festival first took shape in the 1970s, and over the years, it has evolved into one of the town’s most anticipated annual events.
By returning to the era where it all started, organizers hope to create a sense of connection between past and present—inviting long-time residents to reminisce, while giving a new generation the chance to experience a piece of that history in a fun and meaningful way.
From bell bottoms and tie-dye to classic cars and disco beats, the theme opens the door for creativity while celebrating a shared heritage.
A Theme Meant for Everyone
Festival organizers say the “Back to the 70s” theme was intentionally chosen for its accessibility and energy.
“It’s a theme that everyone can take part in,” one committee member shared. “You don’t need a big budget—you just need imagination.”
Whether it’s a full-scale float, a group in coordinated costumes, or a simple nod to the decade, the goal is participation—and bringing the streets of Dunnville to life.
Parade Details & Registration Now Open
The 50th Mudcat Festival Parade will take place on:
Saturday, June 13th at 10:30 AM
Organizers are reminding the community that parade registration is now officially open, and early interest has already been strong.
Businesses, community groups, schools, families, and performers are all encouraged to take part in what is expected to be one of the most memorable parades in the festival’s history.
Supported by Community Partners
This year’s milestone celebration is made even more special through the support of dedicated community partners, including Presenting Sponsor Pet Valu.
Their commitment to community involvement and local events plays an important role in helping bring the festival to life.
“At Pet Valu, we believe in supporting the communities we’re part of, and the Mudcat Festival is such a meaningful tradition in Dunnville,” said Jeff Riley of Pet Valu “Being part of the 50th celebration is something we’re truly proud of. It’s a great opportunity to connect with the community and celebrate everything that makes Dunnville special.”
A Word from the Parade Ambassador
Parade Ambassador Tamara Lovegrove says this year’s celebration is about more than just looking back.
“The 50th Mudcat Festival is something really special for our community,” Lovegrove said. “Choosing ‘Back to the 70s’ felt like the perfect way to honour where we started, while inviting everyone—businesses, families, and organizations—to be part of something fun, creative, and memorable. We’re really looking forward to seeing how people bring the theme to life.”
A Celebration of Community
With preparations underway, there is a growing sense of excitement surrounding this milestone year.
Organizers are encouraging broad participation—from local businesses and community groups to families and individuals—emphasizing that the parade has always been about coming together.
As Dunnville gets ready to celebrate 50 years of Mudcat Festival tradition, one thing is clear:
This year’s parade won’t just be a procession—
It will be a tribute.
To the past.
