Celebrating the Heart of Downtown

The 50th Anniversary Dunnville Mudcat Festival officially kicked off on Thursday, June 11, with a day dedicated to celebrating the heart of the community—its local businesses, restaurants, retailers, and the people who support them.

Presented with the support of the Dunnville BIA, Thursday’s festivities focused on encouraging residents and visitors to explore downtown Dunnville, enjoy local shopping, and discover the many businesses that help make the community unique. Festival vendors joined retailers along the sidewalks, creating a lively atmosphere throughout the downtown core as shoppers browsed, visited local storefronts, and enjoyed the start of the festival weekend.

Music in the Streets

Adding to the day’s energy was local musician Roze Raven, whose live performances throughout downtown provided the soundtrack for the afternoon. As visitors moved from shop to shop and stopped to enjoy a meal or a treat from one of Dunnville’s restaurants, music filled the streets and helped create a welcoming festival atmosphere.

The combination of local shopping, great food, and live entertainment offered residents and visitors a chance to enjoy everything that makes downtown Dunnville special.

The Community Gathers

While the daytime activities offered a chance to slow down and explore the downtown core, the excitement continued to build as evening approached.

For many residents, Thursday has become the unofficial community reunion that kicks off the Mudcat Festival weekend. Friends reconnect, families gather, and visitors return to celebrate a tradition that has become part of Dunnville’s identity.

The Street Dance Begins

As the sun began to set, crowds gathered for one of the festival’s favourite traditions—the Thursday Night Street Dance. Lawn chairs lined the streets, conversations filled the air, and anticipation grew as live music prepared to take centre stage.

The Blackstones opened the evening’s entertainment, bringing energy to the crowd and setting the tone for a memorable night of celebration.

Niagara Soul Shakers Take the Stage

The evening continued with a high-energy performance by the Niagara Soul Shakers. Their mix of crowd favourites and soulful classics kept festival-goers dancing, singing along, and enjoying the first night of the festival’s milestone celebration.

The downtown core came alive with music, laughter, and community spirit as residents and visitors celebrated together well into the evening.

A Tradition Worth Celebrating

This year marked the 50th festival celebration in Dunnville, a remarkable milestone made possible by decades of volunteers, sponsors, community organizations, businesses, and residents who continue to support the event.

Thursday served as a reminder that the Mudcat Festival is about more than the events themselves. It is about bringing people together, supporting local businesses, celebrating community pride, and creating memories that span generations.

As the music faded and the streets emptied for the night, there was a sense of excitement for the weekend ahead. The 50th Anniversary Dunnville Mudcat Festival was officially underway, with many more memories still to come.
